Year End View on Islam- Ali Baghdadi

Year End View on Islam- Ali Baghdadi

Dr. Ali Baghdadi, Arab-American activist, writer, columnist shared his view with Brian E. Muhammad on the state of Islam and Muslims reflecting back on 2009.

BM: Looking back on 2009, how would you describe Islam in review? Was it a good year? Was it a trying year?

AB: The state of Islam as a religion does not worry me. Islam in 2009 as in years past, despite all the plots against it, has been the fastest growing religion. Its simplicity, universality and steadfast against oppression and injustice makes it appealing. It has survived centuries of invasions and onslaught by outside forces. The light of God which shines in the heart of the faithful believers will remain shining. No might has the power to extinguish this light. Many forces have tried but failed.

The state of affairs of Muslims in 2009, however, like in previous years, concerns me the most. Muslims have been going through some of the most serious and alarming trials. Millions of Muslims worldwide continue to suffer. The enemy is barbaric.

BM: 2009 witnessed the first year of President Barack Obama; What is your view of the relationship with Muslims and the U.S. government under the new administration?

AB: Our brother President Barack Obama, whom we voted for as a block and stood solidly behind, has disappointed us in his policies at home and abroad. His deeds contradict with his words. His words are empty and his promises are meaningless. He fully succumbed to the Israeli lobby and the big corporations that harm the interests of Americans. The old policies of George W. Bush in dealing with Islam and Muslims have not changed. The “patriotic act” instituted by the previous administration continues to target decent and peaceful American Muslims that oppose wars of aggression against other nations.

The American war against the Iraqi people continues. The war in Afghanistan is intensified. The American war is extended to Pakistan. A new war against people who demand justice has been started in Yemen. Gaza continues to suffer from land, air and sea siege that prevents food, medicine, fuel, electricity and other necessities from reaching one and a half million human beings. The plots against Iran have intensified for daring to acquire modern technologies for its development. Arab and Muslim lands in Palestine, Syria and Lebanon continue to suffer from Israeli occupation. Muslim rulers who pray towards the White House continue to violate human and civil rights of their unfortunate subjects.

BM: Moving forward into 2010, how would you project into the coming year?

AB: Fortunately, the American imperialist and Zionist project is failing. Muslims throughout the world are resisting. They refuse to capitulate. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

BM: Thank you
