The Al-Maktoum Institute is a research-led institution of higher education which offers postgraduate programmes of study (taught masters and PhD research) in the Study of Islam and Muslims. It is an independent institution, with its degree programmes validated by the University of Aberdeen. The Institute currently offers MLitt and PhD programmes in Islamic Studies, Islamicjerusalem Studies, Muslims, Globalisation and the West, and Multiculturalism, and is planning the introduction of new programmes in Islamic Education and Islamic Finance and Banking.

Staff appointed as lecturers/teaching fellows at the Al-Maktoum Institute will be considered for appointment as honorary lecturer/teaching fellow of the University of Aberdeen.
