The Season to Arrest Quranists Is Back!
The Andalus Center for Tolerance-Studies and Antiviolence condemns the renewal of arrests of Dr. Ahmed Mansour’s relatives: The Islamic thinker and the president of the International Quranic Center. This campaign of arrests follows an earlier series of arrest of five of Dr. Mansour’s relatives last year. Thanks to the Emergency Laws, they were held in custody for more than three months; after which the General prosecutor released them without accusing them of any charge.

A force of the State’s Investigative Security had gone to Abuhariez village In Kafr Sakr Center [county], Alsharkiah district. They arrested Reda Abelrahman, who has been working as a teacher in Alazhar’s school in the village and who has been writing several articles on Ahl-Alquran website. His personal computer and printer were confiscated, as well as an amount of 500 Egyptian Pounds, money he was gathering from his students to organize a field trip to Cairo. The State’s Investigative Security also called Mostafa Kamel Mohamed Ali in, Dr. Mansour’s cousin, two consecutive time, where he was asked about his relation with Dr. Mansour, as well as asked about attending one of the family weddings, which confirms that the State’s Security is watching Dr. Mansour’s family!!!
The Andalus Center for Tolerance-Studies and Antiviolence requests the states to stop using the emergency laws in chasing dissident, despite the government’s assurances that the emergency laws are only used in terrorists and drugs cases. The center also requests that the state stops using flexible and controversial charges as “Despising Religion,” which contradicts with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Finally, the center warns from torturing detainees, as what had happened to Abdelatif Mohamed Ahmed, who was arrested back in 2007.
