Japan finances fourth subway line with US$2 bn
Hideki Matsunaga, chief representative of Japan’s International Cooperation Agency, said the agency is financing the fourth subway
line that would connect Downtown Cairo with the Sixth of October City with US$2 billion.
Speaking to the Euro-Mediterranean Conference in Cairo on Monday, Matsunaga also said the agency signed a cooperation protocol with Cairo University to finance small and medium-sized student projects.
He added that Japanese experts gave training courses to a number of NGO workers in Egypt, and that Egypt and Japan are providing expertise to countries in Africa and the Middle East, such as Yemen and Iraq.
He pointed out that the agency has been granting soft loans to the Egyptian government since the seventies, amounting to $5.3 billion for more than 40 different projects.
