Members of the April 6 Youth Movement in Gharbiya Governorate have launched a media campaign against the Muslim Brotherhood’s presidential candidate Mohamed Morsy, accusing the group of trying to monopolize politics in Egypt.
Ahead of Morsy’s rally on Tuesday, the April 6 Youth Movement in Gharbiya issued a statement saying that they prepared a number of posters reading, “We do not want our president to be a mere ‘spare candidate’ without any serious political platform.”
The statement was also signed by number of other movements including the Revolutionary Socialists and the “Mayuhkumshy” (“He will not rule”) Movement.
The statement said that they will paint negative graffiti of Morsy in the cities of Mahalla and Tanta.
It added that the Muslim Brotherhood distorted the image of the honorable revolutionaries and accused them of betraying Egypt and the Egyptian people. It said that the group is attempting a power grab.
Voters go to the polls on 23 and 24 May, with a run-off expected in June.
