Dear Family, Friends & Colleagues –
I hope everyone is off to a great start in 2012!
2011 was a tumultuous and exhilarating year worldwide, and I’m grateful for the chance to have spoken at almost 150 events in over 20 countries to keep up with the issues and trends that shape all of us.
To begin the year with some big ideas, you might find of interest these recent publications and appearances:
Mumbai, Mega-Cities and Infrastructure
My 6-minute video feature on CNN’s new flagship emerging markets program “Global Exchange” on the need for a data-driven cities index, as discussed while touring Mumbai’s newest infrastructure projects as well as its vibrant slums:

Blowback China
My co-authored Financial Times opinion column titled “Stop Fretting about Beijing as a Global Policeman” argues that the decade of relatively frictionless Chinese expansionism is over, and familiar anti-imperial dynamics will now affect China as they have America, creating opportunities for greater collaboration.
America Needs to Look South
This commentary in Foreign Policy argues that one key pillar missing from American grand strategy is the need to build a new hemispheric alliance with Latin America that harnesses its demographic, natural resource, and industrial potential:
Enrolling the World in For-Profit Universities
