Pope appeals for "full freedom for Asia Bibi"

An appeal for the restitution of "full freedom" to Asia Bibi was launched today by Benedict XVI, at the end of the general audience. He noted that "the international community is following with great concern the difficult situation of Christians in Pakistan, often victims of violence or discrimination.

Okla. asks judge to allow Shariah law ban

 

The state of Oklahoma asked a federal judge to abandon an injunction and allow a controversial measure banning Islamic law in state courts to take effect. Voters overwhelmingly approved the measure Nov. 2. It would bar state courts from using international law or Shariah -- Islamic law -- in matters before the bench. State courts don't use Shariah law, but supporters of the ban say it's meant as a pre-emptive strike, The Tulsa World reported Tuesday.

80 million (legal) Bibles printed in China, announces Amity

The only company authorized to print Bibles in China is marking a milestone: the release today of copy number "80 million" from their printing presses, announced by the official government press agency. Amity Printing Co. located in the eastern city of Nanjing claims to have printed one million copies a month.


Archbishop of Mosul warns of change in strategy in attacks on Christians
