International Quranic Center, the American Quranists and the Canadian Quranists’ statement on the passing of Hussein A. Montazari
The IQC, the AQ and the CQ extend their deepest condolences to Ayatollah Montazari’s immediate family, the Iranian people and Muslims at large on the occasion of his passing.
It should be noted that Ayatollah Montazari’s school of thought concerning type of government was more in conformity with Islamic Principles than what we have been witnessing lately within Iran. One could not help but wonder about the underlying reasons for distancing Ayatollah Montazari from decision making circles, and regardless of those reasons, it does not look promising. What concerns us here at IQC, as American Quranists and as Canadian Quranists, are elements of transparency, democratic measures, and people expressing their innermost thoughts publicly and freely. Oppression and stifling of masses will never amount to any thing useful in either short or long haul. We call upon all to heed Allah’s warnings to avoid oppression.
