One World Criticizes Egypt on Press Freedoms

The Arab Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) reports this week on One World's report on press freedom in the world, focusing on and identifying Egypt as particularly troubling. The report discusses the detention of 6 bloggers in Egypt in 2008, adding that mistreatment of press and bloggers in Egypt violates the Egyptian constitution, which calls for an empowered independent media not subject to censorship. One World called on Egypt to enforce constitutional protections of the media, and to act in accordance with the provisions guaranteeing press freedom in international covenants to which Egypt is a signatory.
