Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University
invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in Islamic
Studies and Muslim-Christian Relations. The successful candidate will hold a
Ph.D. in a relevant discipline or interdisciplinary field, be fluent in
Arabic and preferably one other language of the Muslim world, and have
publications and teaching experience in Islamic studies with a competence in
both classical (in particular early Islamic sources, Qur¹an and hadith) and
modern Islamic thought. Teaching load is two courses per semester. For

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA, Tampa, Florida. The Department of Religious
Studies invites applications for an Associate Professor position in Islam.
We are especially interested in scholars with interests in Islam in Asian
cultural contexts and/or in contemporary Islam, and/or scholars who will be
able to contribute to the Ph.D. program in Philosophy and Religion.
Candidates must show continuing promise of excellence in scholarship and
evidence of successful and effective teaching.  Candidates must be able to
teach Qur¹anic Arabic.  Anticipated teaching load is 2/2. Applicants will be
expected to participate fully in university and departmental service.  A
Ph.D. in Religious Studies or related field with specialization in Islamic
Studies is required.  The Department of Religious Studies at USF emphasizes
the interdisciplinary study of religion, culture, and society.  It offers
the B. A. and the M. A. in Religious Studies, and participates in a Joint
Ph.D. program in Philosophy and Religion with the Philosophy Department. We
presently have 12 fulltime Faculty, upwards of 180 undergraduate majors, and

Politics, with a focus on both traditional and emerging security concerns in

Junior Scholar Fellowship

The Crown Center for Middle East Studies is offering one-year junior scholar
fellowships to outstanding scholars of Middle East politics, economics,
history, religion, or social developments for the 2010-11 academic year.
This fellowship can be either a post-doctoral position for new PhDs or a
research fellowship for assistant professors during their year off from
teaching. It will allow junior scholars the flexibility and means to advance
a specific research project related to the contemporary Middle East.

About the Crown  Center
The Crown Center's research interests encompass the twenty-two members of
the Arab League, stretching from Morocco to Iraq, as well as Israel, Turkey,
and Iran. The Center's research focus extends well beyond Arab-Israeli
tensions to include Middle East politics, Islamic studies, economic and
social developments, and regional security and arms control. The Center's
research staff reflects its broad geopolitical focus. During its three years
of operation, experienced researchers with high-level expertise about Egypt,
Israel, Palestine, Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia conducted research
for the Center. In addition to hosting conferences, seminars, and workshops,
the Center has created tools for "real-time" distribution of analyses
regarding current developments and events in the Middle East with its
"Middle East Brief." The Center also publishes article-length monographs
titled ³Crown Papers," which is a peer-reviewed scholarly publication. The
Center's staff teaches undergraduate- and graduate-level courses at Brandeis
University.

Eligibility
The 2010-2011 junior fellowship is open to both recent Ph.D.s (as a
post-doctoral position) and assistant professors in Middle East related
fields. PhD must be completed by September 1, 2010.

Terms
This fellowship is a one-year appointment beginning September 1, 2010 and
ending June 30, 2011. The stipend for these 10 months will be $43,000. In
addition funding is available for research, travel, and related expenses.
Fringe benefits will be available during the appointment period. Appointment
is subject to budgetary approval. Fellows are expected to be in residence at
the Crown Center during the tenure of the fellowship. During their
residence, fellows are required to produce a scholarly article related to
his/her research project to be submitted to the peer-reviewed "Crown Papers"
series, write a Middle East Brief, and participate in all Crown Center
seminars, conferences and other events. Notification: February 1, 2010;

invites applications for a faculty position with expertise in the academic
study of Islam. All areas of specialization will be considered. Knowledge of
appropriate research languages is required. The successful candidate will be
expected to teach courses in theory and method in the academic study of
religion as well as courses in Islamic Studies. Rank is open, but
appointment at the Assistant  Professor level is preferred. Candidates at

Arabic Language/ Lecturer

The Arabic and Asian Language Office at Texas A&M University announces the
position of a Lecturer in Arabic to start on August 16, 2010. The
appointment is for 2 years and is renewable. The successful applicant will
teach three undergraduate courses at any level in Modern Standard Arabic
each semester and contribute to the curriculum and program development.
Applicants should have an excellent command of Modern Standard Arabic and
should know at least one regional Arabic dialect. Applicants should also
have a strong and recent experience with teaching Arabic to non-native
speakers. Familiarity with second language teaching and acquisition, testing
methods and the use of technology in language teaching are also needed.
Applicants should hold a minimum of Masters Degree in the field or
equivalent by the start date.
