JOURNAL OF MIDDLE EASTERN STUDIES: CALL FOR PAPERS FOR OUR NEW SPECIAL ISSUE

  في الإثنين ٢٧ - فبراير - ٢٠١٧ ١٢:٠٠ صباحاً

Published under the auspices of the Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies (ORSAM), journal of Middle Eastern Studies is soliciting manuscripts for inclusion in its special issue titled “Russia and the Middle East.”
This special issue targets research addressing recent political developments in the Middle East. Currently, there is a strong need for additional knowledge to inform our understanding of Russia’s new involvement in the region. Since the end of the Cold War, it is the first time that Moscow had launched a military operation outside the borders of the former Soviet Union. As already noted by distinguished scholars, many factors constitute the root causes of Russia’s new regional involvement: “seeking to be taken seriously as a global player,” “diverting attention from or increasing its leverage in the Ukraine,” “protecting an ally,” “fighting against terrorism,” “protecting its access to a naval resupply depot in the Mediterranean” and “interrupting a perceived Western-led regime change campaign in the Middle East.” While paying much attention to the above mentioned questions, we are particularly interested in manuscripts that cover Russia’s foreign policy towards Turkey, Russia-Iran alliance and Russia’s involvement in Syria.
